A great food experience in Athens

A familiar concept since its it was first introduced to us as a modern deli-restaurant. After all, Ergon’s objective is to present the local gastronomy in Greece and abroad through a variety of Mediterranean products which are prepared with respect to tradition. In this framework, Ergon already counts 13 such Greek deli-taverns. With this successful recipe, 2 years ago, the second store in Athens was opened (following the one in Nea Erythraia), a step away from Syntagma Square on Mitropoleos Str. with its entrance being on Petraki Str. Walkway. The space shares the same philosophy with the other stores. Shelves which carry products of exceptional quality (more than 600 items) from small Greek producers, while the main refrigerator keeps a fine “collection” of local cheeses and sausages, fulfilling their purpose of whetting our appetite.

These ingredients are used to produce some of the dishes served here, whereas those who crave something from the menu, can purchase it for takeaway. A large variety of spreads, sauces and exceptional olive oil, handmade pasta, wines and herbs are only few of the available products, while those which easily stand out are the tomato jam, the locust bean rusk, the homemade pies made according to recipes from Kozani and the tuna from Alonnisos, hard to find elsewhere! As for its exceptional menu, it follows modern Greek paths. First place amongst the best sellers are either the graviera cheese with paprika from Naxos, the fried zucchini balls and the fava from Santorini, whilst especially adored are the Thessaloniki meatballs, the handmade gyros and the orzo with seafood. Fast selling are also the delicious platters and the spreads (fish roe salad, eggplant salad etc.) which perfectly accompany ouzo, tsipouro or wine from selected Greek vineyard. It also serves brunch with products from small producers from all over Greece. From €18. Daily 10:00-01:00 the deli (the kitchen 12:00-01:00).

Must try

• The dishes of the day depending on the fresh ingredients and the chef’s inspiration.

• The “loukoumades” Greek-style donuts, as the sweetest finish.
